HISTORY

Shoofly Quilters was started in 1996 by a group of ladies who met Fridays at the Payson Senior Center. The group formed a chapter under the auspices of the Arizona Quilters Guild as that would provide further educational opportunities and gain access to national and state teachers.

The Shoofly name came from the common “Shoofly” quilt block and from the Shoofly Indian Ruins located north of Payson.

The first official Shoofly meeting was held on February 2, 1996 at which time officers were elected. Since then the chapter has continued to grow in numbers and in quilting knowledge, interest and service.

Those interested in learning to quilt and quilters of all skill levels are invited to join us.
